Birthstones
The tradition of wearing your birthstone dates to ancient times. It is believed that the astrological birthstone was Tibetan in origin. The Tibetans attributed mystical powers to each gemstone. For example, they believed that if you wore an amethyst, that regardless how much you drank, you would be protected from drunkeness. Thousands of years ago, the Ayurvedcic Indian Medicine list was created. Stones were given mystical and medicinal powers.
As of 1912, a modern birthstone list was formalised, and these are the customary stones we recognise today.
